Smile ID, an identity verification company in Africa, has introduced a new product called Enhanced SmartSelfie for combating fraud identity threats in Africa.
The product comes with a dynamic, randomized liveness check, requiring users to perform specific facial movements for secure identity verification.
“Fraudsters are constantly evolving, and so are we,” said Mark Straub, CEO of Smile ID.
Optimized for Africa, the product comes with modern features needed to tackle the sophistication of fraud techniques:
Dynamic Liveness Challenges: Users perform random head and facial movements, making it harder for fraudsters to bypass the system.
Enhanced Selfie Quality Analysis: A more sophisticated scoring system (0-100) that ensures high-quality submissions and rejects low-quality images.
Advanced Fraud Detection Algorithms: Increased metadata collection and fraud analysis provide real-time insights into suspicious activities.
Real-Time User Feedback: Instant feedback simplifies the verification process, improving the user experience.
Strict Mode for Compliance: Enforces rigorous image capture standards for high-security environments.
On top of the features above, Enhanced SmartSelfie is ISO/IEC 30107 certified, an international standard that provides guidelines, frameworks, and requirements for biometric presentation attack detection (PAD).
Built with robust algorithms, a test of the product resulted in a 0% penetration rate demonstrating the system’s level of effectiveness when it comes to fraud detection.
With Africa’s identity fraud average growth estimated at 167% in 2024, solutions like this bolster the continent against fraud.
Enhanced SmartSelfie is available for mobile platforms and also accessible via the web, for the benefit of all business sizes.
