Paratus Namibia, a telecommunication company in Namibia, suffered a cybersecurity incident a few days ago where it detected unauthorized activity on its internal IT systems.
Before that, Telecom Namibia had already suffered a ransomware attack in December last year making it the second publicly known attack on Namibia’s telecommunication industry in two months.
The incident has affected the company’s operations, disrupting certain information systems. However, the company took immediate action to withdraw all affected systems offline to contain the attack.
“Our internal incident response team, in consultation with independent international legal, forensic, and cybersecurity advisors, has been investigating the incident to determine the scope of the security compromise,” said in the company’s statement obtained via TechAfrica News.
“This combined team has been working around the clock to bring the affected systems back online, on a risk-managed basis in line with best practice”
“Investigations into the incident are ongoing and we remain committed to promptly notify all relevant stakeholders as and when material developments arise in line with our applicable legal obligations.”
