
Nigeria, thorough the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) , has sealed a partnership with Kaspersky to strengthen the country’s digital security.
Under this partnership, Kaspersky will support Nigeria in the following ways:
- Offer training programmes to build local cyber capacity
- Collaborate with NITDA on public awareness campaigns, including its Cybersecurity Alphabet initiative
- Engage in joint research and analysis to boost cyber defence literacy nationwide
- Share intelligence on threats and attacks affecting Nigerian citizens, government, and digital infrastructure
- Provide strategic advisory input to guide NITDA in developing strong frameworks and standards for protecting the nation’s critical information infrastructure, in line with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s priority area of strengthening national security for peace and prosperity
The agreement was reached at the just ended GITEX Nigeria 2025, between the Director General of NITDA, Kashifu Inuwa Abdullahi, and Mr. Chris Norton, General Manager, Africa at Kaspersky.
A Win for Nigeria
Nigeria is one of the sought-after countries in Africa in terms of attacks, crime, and fraud in the digital space. And the reason is clear, Nigeria has a renowned status in Africa’s technology landscape and pair with increasing digital adoption, hackers find enough reasons to target the country.
Prior to GITEX Nigeria 2025, Kaspersky released data suggesting Nigeria was confronted with over 42.4 million web attacks and 95.6 million on-device attacks in the first half of 2025.
It was also reported by Check Point that organizations in Nigeria endured an average of 6,101 weekly cyberattacks in July 2025, which reflects a 67% year-on-year increase.
In the first half of 2025, the country faced 1,844 Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) attacks according to NETSCOUT.
The data above sums up how vulnerable the country is and therefore necessitates stronger defense systems. The partnership with Kaspersky proves that the country is ready and committed to securing its digital future.
In accordance with the country’s digital safety, the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) is developing a national cybersecurity framework for the telecommunications sector.
