Google has revealed its intentions to invest in Artificial Intelligence (AI) training and Cybersecurity education throughout Sub-Saharan Africa.
The company pointed out that it is committed to supporting this innovation through investments in research and development, infrastructure, and partnerships as they’ve announced a $5.8 million investment fund to boost this initiative.
“The funding will go towards equipping workers and students with foundational AI and cybersecurity skills, and supporting nonprofit leaders and the public sector with foundational AI skills,” said Google

Support for Nigeria and Kenya
The Data Scientists Network Foundation will receive a $1.5 million grant to create a program that trains unemployed and at-risk Nigerians in digital and tech training.
As part of the program, the Raspberry Pi Foundation will work with Young Scientists Kenya and Data Scientists Network Foundation to roll out AI literacy education for Kenyan and Nigerian youth.
The company has research centres in Accra (Ghana) and Nairobi (Kenya), which serve as hubs for extensive AI research. This research focuses on developing innovative solutions for African challenges and contributing to global advancements in AI.
