The Minister of Communications and Digitalisation, Ursula Owusu-Ekuful, has announced the ongoing establishment of a new digital technology hub at the University of Ghana.
The hub aims to empower young innovators with a platform to develop Ghana-specific 5G applications.
Tech Mahindra, Radisys, and Nokia —partners of Ghana’s 5G infrastructure —have also committed to building additional centers in Accra to offer young people even more opportunities to innovate.
Why the Digital Hub matters
Ghana officially launched 5G a few days ago with Next Gen Infraco (NGIC) being the leading wholesale infrastructure provider with partners like Tech Mahindra, Nokia, and Radisys.
The rollout of the network has been prioritized in major cities like Accra, Kumasi and Takoradi aiming for nationwide coverage by 2026 as part of Ghana’s Digital Agenda 2030 and the African Union’s Agenda 2063.
According to Ursula Owusu, the digital hub is close to completion and will empower young innovators with essential resources to develop digital solutions for every aspect of our lives, from sanitation, health, education, transportation, agriculture, gaming, trade, commerce, and more.

The Minister noted, “This hub removes a major barrier, allowing the youth to seamlessly launch their innovations across existing networks for the benefit of Ghanaians.”
She stated the building of an upcoming innovation center where industry players can test solutions in a campus-based “sandbox” environment before full market rollout.
