A coordinated operation by the Cyber Security Authority (CSA) and the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) has resulted in the arrest of 39 individuals at Adom City Estate, Tema Community 25, Greater Accra, marking a decisive move against organized cybercrime, the CSA reported.
The arrests were conducted in the early hours of Thursday, August 21, 2025, following extensive intelligence-driven surveillance. Among the suspects were three individuals believed to be minors.
The operation targeted an alleged cyber fraud hub suspected of operating within the residential area. Security personnel executed the raid with significant force, seizing digital devices, laptops, and related materials for detailed forensic examination.
All 39 suspects are presently in police custody and will be formally processed for court proceedings.
This operation forms part of a broader national initiative aimed at dismantling cyber fraud networks, addressing financial scams, and mitigating the growing threat of cyber-enabled crimes affecting individuals and institutions across Ghana.
Recent Crackdowns Highlight Ongoing National Campaign
Between May and July 2025, Ghanaian authorities arrested 65 suspects linked to cybercrime and online fraud through a series of intelligence-driven operations.
These included 47 foreign nationals and 18 Ghanaian citizens. Major operations were executed in Sogakope, Dodowa, Sassabi Ubuntu Estate, Bortianor-Ngleshie Amanfro, and Teshie-Nungua.
According to Mr. Divine Selase Agbeti, Acting Director-General of the Cyber Security Authority, 23 of the 25 suspects arrested in Dodowa were identified as human trafficking victims and later repatriated. Thirteen of the 16 suspects detained in Bortianor are also set for repatriation, while investigations continue into the 13 foreign nationals and one Ghanaian arrested at Teshie-Nungua.
Authorities reported that suspects in Sogakope and Sege, including a ringleader arrested on June 1, had allegedly impersonated Members of Parliament and government officials to defraud victims with false promises of employment within security services.
Confiscated equipment from the Dodowa and Amanfro operations included 62 laptops, 41 mobile phones, and Starlink internet devices, reflecting the advanced infrastructure employed by these criminal networks.
As Ghana intensifies its crackdown, authorities reaffirm their stance: cybercrime will not be allowed to undermine the country’s digital economy or public trust.
