
The Association for Progressive Communications (APC), the Information Society Division of the African Union Commission (AUC), and Research ICT Africa (RIA) invite applications for the 13th annual African School on Internet Governance (AfriSIG 2025).
This year’s edition will take place from May 22 to 27, 2025, in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, ahead of the African Internet Governance Forum (IGF) scheduled for May 28 to 31.
What to Expect
AfriSIG 2025 is a five-day intensive program featuring interactive learning, knowledge-sharing, and networking. Key topics include:
- Digitalisation and Sustainable Development – addressing digital inequality and inclusion.
- Internet Governance Ecosystem – exploring multilateral and multi-stakeholder approaches.
- African Institutional Context – understanding the role of key regional organizations.
- Roles of Stakeholders – including government, civil society, businesses, academia, and the technical community.
- Open Internet Infrastructure – standards, protocols, and management of internet names and numbers.
- Data Governance – including security, sovereignty, and Africa’s data policy framework.
- Social Issues in Internet Governance – human rights, gender, and political participation.
- Cybersecurity and Trust – frameworks to enhance safety online.
- Content Regulation – dealing with misinformation, oversight, and jurisdiction.
- Emerging Issues – AI, climate change, digital sovereignty, and geopolitics.
- Current Debates – including WSIS+20 and the Global Digital Compact.
For 2025, the practicum will focus on data governance and WSIS+20’s 20-year review.
Who Can Apply?
AfriSIG 2025 is open to professionals already engaged in internet governance or digital policy. You should apply if:
- You are passionate about using the internet for Africa’s development.
- You work in ICT policy, data governance, media, or related fields.
- You have relevant work experience and are not a beginner.
- You are in a leadership or decision-making role.

Cost and Sponsorship
Participation costs $2,000, covering tuition and accommodation. Travel costs are not included unless covered by a limited travel fellowship. Sponsorship opportunities are available for selected applicants.
