Amazon Web Services (AWS), Microsoft, the East Africa Community, and Cognizant are among the 25+ organizations supporting the AI Skills Coalition, an initiative by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) to bridge the global AI skills gap and provide equitable access to AI training.
The AI Skills Coalition was announced at the World Economic Forum’s Annual Meeting in Davos, emphasizing the role of digital technologies in building a sustainable future.
This initiative aligns with the United Nations’ Pact for the Future and Global Digital Compact, addressing the need for AI capacity building and equitable opportunities worldwide.
Not only AI but there is also a cyber skills gap that needs attention.
The Coalition will offer an online platform for AI education, providing free and accessible training in generative AI, machine learning, and AI applications for sustainable development.
Advanced certifications will be available at affordable rates. ITU will collaborate with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) to expand AI training across 170+ countries.
“Let’s ensure everyone has a chance to learn AI skills and benefit from the AI revolution,” said Doreen Bogdan-Martin, ITU Secretary-General.

ITU’s AI for Good Impact Report, developed with Deloitte, highlights that 94% of business leaders consider AI crucial, yet barriers such as skill shortages and lack of trust hinder adoption.
The Coalition aims to address these challenges and support marginalized groups, including women, youth, and persons with disabilities.
Founding organizations will contribute resources to develop a new AI training platform, launching in March 2025. The platform will feature self-paced courses, webinars, in-person workshops, and hybrid programs tailored to diverse learning needs.
The AI for Good Global Summit, scheduled for July 8-11, 2025, in Geneva, will host in-person workshops to further AI skills training.
