WhatsApp has introduced voice message transcripts, allowing users to read messages when they can’t listen to voice messages while in loud environments.
How to use voice message transcript
To access the new WhatsApp feature, users must update WhatsApp and follow the steps below:
Step 1: Go to Settings
Step 2: Select the “Chats” section
Step 3: Tap “Voice message transcripts” to turn the feature on. From there, you can select your transcript language.
Once turned on, you can get a transcript for a voice message by long-pressing it and then tapping the “transcribe” option. Be informed it will not automatically transcribe every message for you.
What languages can you transcribe?
If you’re an Android user, you can access transcripts in English, Portuguese, Spanish, and Russian.
On iOS, supported languages vary by version. For iOS 16 and above, they include English, Spanish, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, Russian, Turkish, Chinese, and Arabic. For iOS 17 and above, additional supported languages are Danish, Finnish, Malay, Norwegian, Dutch, Swedish, Hebrew, and Thai.
The company plans to add support for additional languages in the coming months.
